How to install your car mobility hoist

Access Unlimited Lift on 20th Dec 2022

Have you just purchased one of our AlphaLift Mobility lifters but you’re not sure how to install it? Not to worry, we’re here to help you out!

Car hoists for the disabled are massively advantageous when you’re trying to get out and about. Not every vehicle is wheelchair accessible and many lifting hoists require vehicle modification or have a very limited lifting capacity. For carers, high quality car mobility aids simplify the patient handling process.

Installing a portable car hoist can feel quite overwhelming. But with this easy guide, you should be able to install this quickly and without fuss. So, without further ado, let’s take a look at what you get in your package.

What you get with your AlphaLift Mobility Lifter

When you receive your AlphaLift Mobility Lifter, you will see 5 different components:

  • A SpeedyBar Mount
  • Parralift Electric Lifter
  • Pendant Controller
  • Articulated Swivel Arm
  • Lifting Harness/Sling

Follow these 10 simple steps to install the AlphaLift in your vehicle:

1. Secure the Speedybar to the vehicle door hinge - When you receive your AlphaLift, you’ll see a Speedybar in the box. This has to be secured to your vehicle's door hinge. All you need to do is place it over the door hinges. It becomes the main point to which the Paralift electric lifter part will be attached.

Please note* SpeedyBars are unique to each vehicle which needs to be specified at the time of order.

2. Mount the Paralift electric lifter to the SpeedyBar pivot points - Once you have secured the SpeedyBar to your vehicle's door hinge, it’s time to attach the Paralift eclectic lifter. It attaches at the bottom of the SpeedyBar’s pivot points so it can be swivelled from side-to-side.

3. Connect the Paralift electric lifter to the power module - This can be inserted into the cigarette lighter of your car.

4. Connect the Pendant controller to the Paralift electric lifter - This step is pretty simple. All you need to do is attach this at the bottom of the Paralift electric lifter. Once you’ve done this, all power should be connected.

5. Mount the articulated swivel arm components to the Paralift electric lifter - The articulated swivel arm is a key element of the AlphaLift. It allows the user to be easily and comfortably manoeuvred through the door opening and to the seat. Make sure it’s plugged into the vehicle's power supply.

6. Test the AlphaLift for correct operation - Give your new AlphaLift a quick test to see if everything works.

7. Place the sling in position under the person being lifted - Now you know that everything is working perfectly, it’s time to place the sling underneath the person in the wheelchair. The lifting harness/sling is uniquely built with several connecting points to accommodate individual needs. The sling fits down the back and under the legs when seated with minimal effort, acting as a swivel seat.

8. Connect the sling to the lift points on the articulated swivel arm - Be sure to use the shortest loops for the best range of patient lifting and easier car access.

9. Using the Pendant controller to lift the person from their wheelchair to car transfer - This should be fairly easy. Press the button to begin hoisting!

10. Manually push the person into the vehicle feet first and then manoeuvre them into the car seat - It’s always a good idea to have extra hands on board if this is your first time using the AlphaLift. Practice makes perfect!

All done! Once you install your AlphaLift a few times, you should easily get the hang of it.
