Choosing the right mobility hoist for you

Access Unlimited Lift on 15th Dec 2022

Mobility, or the ability to move independently, is an important part of a person's independence and mental health. For some people, the thought of using a hoist can be quite overwhelming, but they are a massive help when it comes to safely transferring a person with disabilities from one place to another.

People with disabilities need to go about their day as normal, so it’s good to know the different types of mobility hoists that are available. In this blog, we will discuss how to choose the right mobility hoist as well as introduce to you and the carer what hoists are.

What is a mobility hoist?

A mobility hoist is an aid that helps assist a person with limited mobility. It can be used at home, in a car or care home to help with everyday routines such as toileting, transferring from bed to wheelchair, getting around the house, showering, and so on.

For getting in and out of the car

Daily trips can be made much easier with a car hoist.

Our unique, Australian-made AlphaLift Mobility Lifter enables wheelchair users to get out and about safely and easily. It's simple to use, fits into any car and can be simply transferred between vehicles.

The AlphaLift Mobility lifter is NDIS-approved and simple to install, requiring no drilling whatsoever. It’s compact, lightweight and can be easily fitted into the boot of your car. This option aids carers transporting patients from their homes or aged care facilities to wherever they need to go, no matter the vehicle model.

Around the house

From bath time to sitting in front of the couch to watch TV, a home lifter is the best choice for assisting in your daily routine at home.

The AUL-XT Home Lifter is a lightweight aluminium lifter that is powerful, compact, and simple to use. It can be easily manoeuvred into tight locations and folded into a compact size for transportation and storage.

This lifter has electronic controls (pendant push button) that help with a smooth range of lift and transfer. The legs are also electronically opened and closed, making it suitable for usage at home. No matter where you are, the AUL-XT includes a 5Ah 'detachable' lead acid battery that can be charged anywhere.

You also have the option of purchasing additional mobility aids such as mobility scooters, residential lifts and floor hoists.

Move from room to room with ceiling hoists

Ceiling hoists are among the most popular types of hoists available. They are connected to a fixed rail that is installed on the ceiling. The railing or track that's attached can go in any direction and through several rooms, including doorways!

Supportive attachable slings that help with in-home tasks

Having a range of mobility equipment that provides easy and comfortable transfers are useful to have at home. These slings are designed to attach to your home or mobility lifter, so let’s take a look at the different slings available:

There are numerous possibilities for going about daily tasks from travelling to moving freely around your home. Whatever lifting hoists you choose, keep in mind that all hoists require maintenance, usually on an annual basis. There are appropriate Australian Standards for lifting equipment maintenance and inspection.
